Guidance for Choosing Your Puppy

Finding a companion involves more than choosing a breed. Our Pet Counselors receive intensive training to help families make informed decisions about pet ownership. We help you consider your personality, lifestyle, and the care your puppy will need.

Our relationship continues after homecoming, with guidance on training, nutrition, and everyday care. Learn more about Petland Chillicothe and our commitment to pet-parent education.

Where Our Puppies Come From

Petland Chillicothe selects breeders based on applicable licensing requirements, regulatory compliance, animal welfare guidelines, and veterinary care practices. Carefully screened hobby breeders may also be part of our sourcing program and must follow our humane-care guidelines and medical protocols.

Our owner and managers travel to visit breeder facilities and learn about their practices firsthand. We also support Canine Care Certified breeders, a voluntary program based on standards developed at Purdue University that address dogs’ physical health and behavioral well-being.

Explore our breeder standards and sourcing practices before your visit.

Veterinary Care and Daily Attention

Our consulting veterinarians examine new arrivals, provide preventive care, and oversee in-store healthcare protocols. Puppies receive vaccinations and deworming, along with an examination by a state-licensed veterinarian before joining their new families.

Daily care includes quality food, weight monitoring, regular temperature checks, grooming as needed, exercise, and socialization with adults and children.

After homecoming, puppies receive a complimentary first veterinary examination. Arrange that visit soon after bringing your puppy home and take your puppy’s paperwork with you. Read more about our veterinary care and recommendations for new owners.
